Today, comparing and combining travel options across different modes is difficult and time-consuming.
This means we often fly to our destinations without realising there are alternative options that can save us:
For example, you want to travel from Brussels to Florence on
The quickest option is to take a direct flight from Brussels International Airport to Florence Peretola airport. The price is a staggering €668 for a one-way ticket, with travel emissions amounting to 215 kg of CO2.
But you could travel multimodal to cut on costs and emissions. For example, by taking a flight to Milan followed by a train to Florence for €175. The journey emits 154 kg of CO2, 61 kg less than the direct flight.
Or you could opt for the most sustainable option and travel entirely by train, leaving Brussels at 07.43 and reaching the historic centre of Florence at 18:50, for a total price of €287. This journey emits only 6 kg of CO2.
In fact, there are endless options depending on your budget and preferences.
And, depending on your choices, you could save up to:
83% in costs
98% kg CO2 in emissions

A new EU Regulation, the Multimodal Digital Mobility Services (MDMS) Regulation, could provide you with the full range of transport options when booking travel
This is only possible if transport operators allow booking platforms to access all their fares, schedules and emissions data.
This access needs to be granted on fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory terms.
